NEWNAN, Ga. (ABP) – John Roland was studying for the ministry at Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary in Texas in 1999 when Hurricane Floyd hit his home state of Florida. He got so busy calling to check on his parents, grandmother and others that he lost track of time and missed his ride to an event at his church.

Retiring CBF head to lead new center for Baptist leadership Print E-mail

ATLANTA (ABP) – Retiring Cooperative Baptist Fellowship Executive Coordinator Daniel Vestal has been tapped to lead Mercer University’s new Eula Mae and John Baugh Center for Baptist Leadership. Vestal will assume his new role July 1, the day after he retires as head of the Atlanta-based CBF, where he has served since 1996.

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (ABP) – The Southern Baptist Convention’s top public-policy expert said Feb. 4 that President Obama’s healthcare mandate covering contraception is the most anti-Catholic action by government since the denial of taxpayer funding to parochial schools.
