(ABP) -- I recently had the privilege of hearing Fred Craddock preach. For many clergy, Craddock represents the personification of a stream of preaching that emphasizes narrative and intuition over expository and logic. For some it is extremely appealing, not so much for others. For me, he stands as an iconic figure who has helped many people maintain their love of Scripture and preaching for nearly 50 years.

(ABP) -- The weather is finally beginning to be a little balmy around here, enough for me and most of my neighbors to spend evenings with our windows open. The other night happened to be the first night of Passover, and as many of my neighbors are observant Jews, through my open windows I got to enjoy the sounds of families celebrating Passover together. Laughter, strains of children singing Dayenu with great enthusiasm, and the repetition of the story again this year floated on the warm spring air.

(ABP) -- A controversy is raging over capital punishment in Texas -- a state that executes upwards of 30 to 35 people (almost all men and disproportionately African-American and poor) annually. Most Texas Christians favor capital punishment even though it has been shown repeatedly not to be a deterrent to crime. Life in prison serves just as well for that.
