WACO, Texas (ABP) -- W. H. Brian Jr., an attorney in Amarillo, Texas, will chair the 11-member committee to seek a new president of Baylor University, the largest Baptist university in the world.

Brian and 10 other regents were named to the committee, which will nominate the successor to President Robert Sloan, who announced Jan. 21 he will step down June 1 to become chancellor, in response to pressure from some regents and alumni.

Others on the search committee are regent chair Will Davis of Auston, vice chair Jim Turner of Dallas, Jay Allison of Frisco, Joe Armes of Dallas, Joe Coleman of Houston, Randy Ferguson of Austin, Phil Lineberger of Sugar Land, Drayton McLane of Temple, David Sibley of Waco, and Donell Teaff of Waco.

An advisory committee, including faculty, alumni, students and others, was appointed to consult with the search group. Lyndon Olson Jr. of Waco, former U.S. Ambassador to Sweden, is chair.

Davis said the search committee will select a presidential search firm to help identify candidates.
