Associated Baptist Press was founded in 1990 as the first and only independent news service created by and for Baptists.
Our Mission: To serve Christ by providing credible and compelling information about matters of faith.
Our Vision: To be the leading source of news, features and commentary for the global community of Baptists and other Christians.
Our Reach: With ABPnews.com as its hub, ABP utilizes multiple communications platforms, including publishing partnerships, e-mail and social media, to deliver timely and engaging content to tens of thousands of Baptists and other Christians around the globe. ABP's content is used by a variety of religious and secular media, from newspapers and magazines to websites, blogs and social media.
Our Values: As inheritors of the Baptist tradition, ABP believes truth is the cornerstone upon which the democratic process is built, both in religious and civil relationships. We believe in democracy, because we believe it best honors the competency of every soul before God. Therefore, we believe our first commitment must be to our readers, whose right to know the truth is paramount, both for relating to God and to others. Our ministry will be built upon freedom, fairness and objectivity, by which we guard our integrity and autonomy. Our work will reflect the highest standards of journalistic excellence and Christian integrity.
Our
Funding: ABP is a non-profit, member-supported news organization.
Our services are made possible by Friends of ABP -- individuals,
churches and organizations that believe a free and unfettered source of
news and information is essential to the health and integrity of the
Christian witness and the Baptist movement. Contributions account for
more than 86 percent of our annual operating budget.
Our Governance: ABP is guided by a 23-member Board of Directors
composed of laypersons and clergy. Each member is a committed volunteer who supports ABP financially, advocates for our unique role as an autonomous Baptist news service, and serves without compensation or reimbursement for travel and meeting expenses. The board is currently chaired by Dan Lattimore, vice provost for extended programs and former journalism department chairman at the University of Memphis.
Our Team: The work of ABP is performed by three full-time staff members located in three states, plus a development associate who serves in a shared position with the Baptist Standard of Texas, one of ABP's New Voice publishing partners. A fourth position of assistant news editor has remained vacant since 2007 due to budget constraints.

Our Structure: ABP functions as a virtual organization. We do not own or lease office space. Our lean structure and regionally-located personnel allow us to concentrate our resources on the primary task of gathering, reporting, editing and publishing news and information for Baptists and other Christians.
Our Stewardship: For a copy of our Annual Report, contact Lindsay Bergstrom, director of operations.
