Evangelical global-warming skeptics hire lobbyist Print E-mail

WASHINGTON (ABP) -- As Congress debates clean-energy legislation, a conservative Christian group is ramping up lobbying efforts to raise questions about the science of climate change.

The Cornwall Alliance for the Stewardship of Creation Committee recently hired Shannon Royce, a 25-year veteran of conservative organizations including the Southern Baptist Ethics & Religious Liberty Commission, as executive director.

"If you listen to the hype that you will hear in the media, you will hear that evangelicals really feel strongly about global warming, and the impression is that all evangelicals have bought into this global-warming bandwagon, and it simply is not true," Royce said in an interview on a Christian radio station in Chicago.

She said cap-and-trade policies being debated in Congress are based on "pseudoscience" about human-induced global warming and would result in increased energy costs that wind up hurting the poor.

"The environmental extremists, and frankly unfortunately even some of our left-wing evangelical friends, see people predominantly as polluters and consumers," she said. "Now what do you have to do if people are predominantly polluters and consumers? You need less people. It's not necessarily that these groups are the same groups that would promote abortion abroad. They just won't let us get food to those people, so they die naturally. It's not the same as killing them directly, maybe, but it's still really against the principles of what we believe as Christians."

Royce's new employer formed in 2005 to counter a rising chorus of evangelical voices calling Christians to action on climate change. Contrary to pro-environmental groups like the Evangelical Climate Initiative, the Cornwall Alliance supports "stewardship" of the earth but says many environmental concerns are overblown.

Calvin Beisner, the group's national spokesman, recently testified before the House Energy and Commerce Subcommittee on Energy and Environment. Beisner claimed the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change  exaggerates the threat of catastrophic manmade global warming in part because its "work rests on the naturalist, atheistic world view" instead of a "biblical" world view that "sees Earth and its ecosystems as the effect of a wise God's creation and providential preservation and therefore robust, resilient, and self-regulating."

Royce, who formerly worked on Capitol Hill for the Southern Baptist Convention's public policy arm and was founding executive director of the Arlington Group, a coalition of "pro-family" organizations, said environmentalism began making inroads into evangelical Christianity a number of years ago "with some on the left deliberately courting and engaging some of our Christian friends and brothers on issues like this, and unfortunately I think at times co-opting them, with their concerns."

"I don't question the motives of those who have gotten engaged on that, but I think unfortunately the science just doesn't support this," she said.

Royce, who until recently worked as Washington director of TheVanguard.org, a conservative alternative to MoveOn.org. , said she is excited to be working with the Cornwall Alliance.

"Environmental stewardship and care for the poor are deeply biblical issues, but secular environmentalism has increasingly set its sights on limiting development and reducing human population," she said in a press release. "Now, at a time when American families are struggling to make ends meet, Washington is considering a host of ill-advised measures that would make prices for energy, food and other essential needs skyrocket."

"Climate change alarmists want to prevent economic growth here and around the world," she said. "But the view that people are the problem -- that they are polluters rather than producers -- is unbiblical, and evangelicals aren't buying it."

A good article
written by Dr. J, May 04, 2009
I enjoyed reading an article that stated the obvious about the voodoo science of global warming. Where can we make a contribution to Shannon's work?

Shannon Royce plagiarizes (steals) from Rush Limbaugh, GOP head knocker, and insults their role in both the Koran and Bible. Extremist Republicans and Christians have taken status as masters of the universe as dumping toxic chemicals and violent weathers on neighbors and future generations is a “hoax”. “The Event ... [56.75] But nay! I swear by the falling of stars” and “The Jinn ... [72.8] And that we sought to reach heaven, but we found it filled with strong guards and flaming stars” (The Koran; quod.lib.umich.edu). “Genesis 37:9 ... "I had another dream, and this time the sun and moon and eleven stars were bowing down to me" (Bible; biblegateway.com).

Dear good Baptists,

From atheists to deeply pious to psychics, geologists have built careers on claiming prediction of earthquakes is impossible. As of the time of this posting, all of the following earthquake predictions based on this week’s chunk of global warming based on conservative science and not on ideology and a stock portfolio. For this blog, earthquakes were chosen as the test because extremist Republicans and Christians can’t hide an earthquake because there can be damage or it could be a nuclear detonation. Each region with a minimum level of intensity has an individual random chance of occurrence of 1/25 times 1/25 = 0.16%. (For other public readers Tong and Guatemala have been correct this week but could occur again.)

“A. Our Ozonator’s preamble for Survival (OOPS) ... 1. This is the week of the Moon Walk Model ... Solar flares from our star, earth flares, and sunspots should be at a minimum. Quake energy has been exported to the DEQ-ORM-Esso-Kill-the-Planet Model (4/19 - 25/09) and may yet save the Bay of Bengal region or the middle of the South Pacific from cracking open ... However, lately magma upwelling has been very vigorous in the Pacific and may yet drag Los Angeles or San Francisco into deeper water, dark shadows, and never-land from the Dream State of Jindalstan to save us from our hurricanes unlike ExxonMobil’s barrier island (Cuba). ...
B. The specifics of the Giulaino - Gansu Model (5/3 - 9/09) of extreme earthquake warnings ... for regions (magnitude in Richters) are:

1. Vancouver (6 ) - San Francisco (6 ) - Los Angeles (6 ) - Hawaii (4 );
2. Moon Walk Model (5/3 - 9/09):
a. Panama (6 ) - El Salvador (6 ) - Guatemala (6 ),
b. South East Pacific Ridge (5 ) - Tonga (5 ) - Fiji (6 ) - Vanuatu (5 ) - Philippines (6 ), and
c. China (6 ) - Burma (6 ) - India (5 );
3. Iraq (5 ) - Israel (4 ) - Egypt (5 ) - Malta (4 ) - Algeria (5 ) - Azores (4 ); and
4. Björn “to loot and lie” Lomborg, Denmark (3 ) - Poland (4 ) - Romania (5 ) - Greece (5 ).
...
C. GBRWE official experimental quake and other models ... Because of the inherent warning factors while trying to maximize the prediction for the affected region, a correct in this earthquake modeling is anything within 0.5 Richters below given prediction and anything above the prediction for the region” (“GBRWE 5/3 - 9/09's Extreme Planetary Warnings for Earthquakes, Volcanoes, and Solar/Terrestrial Flares from Human Activities”; Robert Rhodes, Supplemental; GBRWE 5/3 - 9/09, 5/2/09).

Dear good Baptists,

After making my predictions:

making at least 1 (4%) of 25 correct for using global warming to show that the Shannon Royce’s are false gods for hire, the following is well within the standard Richter intensity for the Ozonator model for the predicted “Tonga (5)” which is 4.5 Richters and greater over a 2-week period.

From the good people with bad maps at the USGS (earthquake.usgs.gov):
Magnitude RichtersDate-time Depth km Region
4.9  2009/05/05 03:20:06  35.0  TONGA.

Dear good Baptists,

After making my predictions -

the following makes at least 2 (8%) of 25 correct for using global warming to show that the Shannon Royce’s are false gods/prophet/cheerleader for hire. The following is just within the standard Richter intensity for the Ozonator model for the predicted “Greece (5)” which is 4.5 Richters and greater over a 2-week period.

From the good people with bad maps at the USGS (earthquake.usgs.gov):
Magnitude RichtersDate-time Depth km Region
4.5  2009/05/07 15:31:49  73.3   SOUTHERN GREECE.

Overall, the lack of significant quakes this week seems to be due to increased magma upwelling at great depth (>100 km) interacting with increased CMEs. “After lying dormant for a few months, the Sun is once again witnessing revival of Coronal Mass Ejection (CME) activities since May 5. ... an impressive coronal mass ejection (CME) and a burst of radio emissions ... "The activity continued apace on May 6, with at least two more eruptions. ..." NASA said. ... will also provide clues to the interplanetary medium, Dr Mayank Vahia of TIFR said” (“'Silent' Sun renews activity”; PTI; dnaindia.com, 5/7/09). The Shannon Royce’s don’t have a evil job if they can’t convince us that a CME is part of the New Ice Age. For the record, I also predicted the CMEs and “sunspot” in other public material while I failed to predict the flurry of magma upwellings.

Dear good Baptists,

After making my predictions -

the following makes at least 3 (12%) of 25 correct for using global warming to show that the Shannon Royce’s are false gods/prophet/cheerleader for hire. The following is just within the standard Richter intensity for the Ozonator model for the predicted “India (5)” which is 4.5 Richters and greater over a 2-week period.

From the good people with bad maps at the USGS (earthquake.usgs.gov):
Magnitude RichtersDate-time Depth km Region

4.7   2009/05/09 02:51:17  29.7   ANDAMAN ISLANDS, INDIA REGION

I consider this only technically correct as the Andamans is to mainland India as Hawaii is to the mainland US.

Dear good Baptists,

After making my predictions -

The following makes at least 4 (16%) of 25 correct for using global warming to show that the Shannon Royce’s are false gods/prophet/cheerleader for hire. The following is just within the standard Richter intensity for the Ozonator model for the predicted area between Iraq and Egypt - “Israel (4)” - which is 3.5 Richters and greater over a 2-week period.

Al Harrah is about 200 miles east of Jerusalem and you can’t get more Biblical than this region unless you are an extremist Republican and/or Christian. In northwest Saudi Arabia, “rumblings from the direction of extinct volcanoes in Al-Ais, which was hit by a series of tremors over the last couple of weeks, sent villagers in the area into a state of near panic in the early hours of yesterday. “Most of the local people spent the night in a state of extreme anxiety when a thunder-like rumble was heard,” one worried resident told Arab News yesterday. ... the provincial branch of the Civil Defense is battle-ready with personnel and equipment to face any eventuality. Civil Defense teams have been patrolling villages where tremors were experienced to reassure people. ... Arab News visited the grim looking Al-Harrah Mountain, the source of the rumbling noise and the epicenter of the recent tremors. ... Sprawled over an area of 2,863 sq. km, Al-Ais ... has an estimated population of 60,000 people. The town was an ancient resting place for caravans traveling between the western and southern cities of the Arabian Peninsula and Syria. According to the SGS, the tremors were due to subterranean volcanic activity in the Harrat Al-Shaqqah area. The SGS registered 11 seismic tremors since last Tuesday in Al-Ais, the biggest of which measured 3.7 on the Richter scale” (“Rumblings from Al-Ais volcanoes send villagers into state of panic”; Yousuf Muhammad | Arab News; arabnews.com, 5/15/09). “The Harrat Ash Shamah (also known variously as the Harrat Ash Shaam and the Harrat e-Shamah) is a volcanic field covering a total area of some 40,000 km2 (15,000 sq mi). This massive alkaline volcanic field extends from southern Syria, across Jordan and into northwestern Saudi Arabia. Amongst others, the Jabal ad Duruz, Es Safa and Dirat at Tulul volcanic fields form the northern, Syrian part of the Harrat Ash Shamah; Al Harrah is in the southern, Saudi Arabian third of the field” (en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Harrat_Ash_Shamah).

Much like America’s CEOs who get paid millions when their corporations fail, geologists who fail with earthquakes similarly become accredited, fat , and happy professions with multiple children with each wife/husband and the best comb-overs money can buy. For example, “Dr. Jay Pulliam, W.M Keck Foundation Professor of Geophysics at Baylor University, has been selected unanimously for the 2009 Baylor Centennial Professor award, which will allow him to research the subduction of the Indian-Australian plate. ... "... can only be studied with seafloor instrumentation ... " ... This location is where the rupture ended after the great Sumatra earthquake in 2004. ... claiming thousands of lives. Pulliam said ... Although earthquake prediction is not possible ... "Monitoring undersea faults requires the unusual sort of instrumentation that we can bring to bear," Pulliam said. " ... I am optimistic that the travel and negotiations made possible by this award will lead to a large-scale project ... "” (“Geology Professor Awarded Centennial Professor Honor”; Media contact: Matt Pene, Assistant Director of Media Communications,; baylor.edu, 5/13/09). And, yes, I did predict a good part of the Indonesian tsunami which killed over 2 hundred thousand good souls. Even the most scurvy al-Qaida dog would not commit such death, destruction, and crime against humanity, "I normally don't pat myself on the back, but today, global warming is an issue that has the concern of 30% of the American people. A few years ago it was over 50%. That's because somebody spoke up day in and day out and said, 'This is a hoax.' And that somebody was me" (“Monday Quotes: Last Man Standing”; the evil Mr. Rush “LABI” Limbaugh of Rush Limbaugh and Sean Hannity - extremist Republican and Christian corporate horror media outlets; plagiarism and dope dealing in melamine, BPA, tainted peanuts, DDT, downer cow, and bile server farms; gerbil king and princess rulers of Planet-Star Wormwoody Jenkins and national baby monitors; screwed General Motors, Bobby Jindal, and Louisiana into the ground from his 80 cats in a feces-filled mansion; as pro-life as a Missouri mule; rushlimbaugh.com, 5/11/09).

Dear good Baptists,

A day past the 2-week window and 1.3 Richters short - but good educational and warning to help minimize panic and dependance on extremist media outlets for evil global warming propaganda.

”Seismologists are warning Los Angeles-area residents to expect more aftershocks ... Sunday night's magnitude-4.7 quake ... USGS seismologist Susan Hough said there would likely be more aftershocks in the "threes, maybe a four," and there was a 5 percent chance of a larger quake. "People should be on their toes," she said. ... was felt as far south as San Diego, Hough said. ... The last damaging earthquake in Southern California was the 1994 magnitude-6.7 Northridge quake that toppled bridges and buildings” (1. ”Seismologist: 1 in 20 chance of larger quake in LA”; By CHRISTOPHER WEBER, Associated Press Writer; news.yahoo.com, 5/17/09).

With condolences to Saudi Arabia

~7:00 PM CST; 5/19/09

Dear good Baptists,

I was incorrect about the Israel 4 prediction. Further quakes, within the last few days, reported a 5.7 Richter quake with some damage and much fear in the “same” Saudi Arabian area. The actual maps show the area that is about 350 miles south of Israel instead of 200 east of Jerusalem. While still in the biblical region and the mountain range that I was able to find, this swarm of quakes is ~150 miles across the Red Sea from the 5 Richter quake predicted for Egypt and 1 day outside the 2-week window as defined in this blog.

Thus, there were officially at least 3 (12%) of 25 correct for using global warming to show that the Shannon Royce’s are false gods/prophet/cheerleader for hire.
