Associated Baptist Press was founded in 1990 as the first and only independent news service created by and for Baptists. Our mission is to serve Christ by providing credible and compelling information about matters of faith. Our vision is to be the leading source of news, features and commentary for the global community of Baptists and other Christians.
ABP is a non-profit, member-supported news organization. Our ministries are made possible by Friends of ABP -- those individuals, churches and organizations that believe in the value of a free and unfettered source of news and information. Contributions account for 86 to 88 percent of ABP's annual operating budget. Gifts from individuals are the largest single source of ABP's revenue.
ABP is governed by a 23-member Board of Directors comprised of Baptist laypersons and clergy from 10 states.
Our Commitment and Values
1. Principles -- As inheritors of the Baptist tradition, ABP believes truth is the cornerstone upon which the democratic process is built, both in religious and civil relationships. We believe in democracy, because we believe it best honors the competency of every soul before God. Therefore, we believe our first commitment must be to our readers, whose right to know the truth is paramount, both for relating to God and to others. Our ministry will be built upon freedom, fairness and objectivity, by which we guard our integrity and autonomy.
2. Function -- ABP functions as a news cooperative. We will develop a network of reporters and news outlets -- both religious and secular -- that will provide a steady source of quality news, as well as a ready outlet for that product. We will use innovative technology to reach the widest audience possible.
3. Content -- ABP will credibly and compellingly report on matters of faith. We will report news, events and trends that affect and interest Baptists.
4. Objective -- ABP's goal is to tell the truth and thus promote understanding about matters of faith.
