Jeff writes and edits news and features and serves as editor of the ABPnews Blog. He joined ABPnews in March 2012 after 20-plus years in secular newspapers and a brief stint with United Press International. He was a city editor and reporter covering a range of beats during that span, but his main focus always was in religion writing, a passion that won him numerous awards including the Religion Newswriters Association religion writer of the year in 2009.
His career has taken him to newspapers in Tennessee, Ohio and Florida. He became the religion editor for Scripps Treasure Coast Newspapers in South Florida in 2001 then the religion writer at The Florida Times-Union in Jacksonville in 2004. He continues to make Jacksonville his home.
Jeff also does a little teaching on the side. His journalism degree from the University of Tennessee and masters in religious studies from Miami University, Ohio, enabled him to teach journalism and religion at the University of North Florida. Currently he teaches a world religions course at Florida State College at Jacksonville.
